Minor league rosters are something I’m fairly strongly considering. This is especially important for the MLB because there are guys out there who aren’t yet at the major league level who have a few years left in the minors but are potential superstars in a few years. I was thinking of having a minor league draft as well after the initial entry draft (or parallel to it) where we could basically draft a 15 man farm system to call up to our major league roster if/when they hit the big leagues. The minor league system I have in mind does cater to the contract-based system that I was referring to in the dynasty/keeper options post here: foursportdynasty.freeforums.net/thread/17/dynasty-keeper-options
I was considering that we could potentially implement a minor league roster for each sport, and this is what I was thinking (Note: the rookie drafts I mentioned would be in reverse order of the standings from the previous year in that particular sport.) :
MLB (AAA roster)
We would have a minor league draft (15 rounds?) and any player with less than a certain amount of experience would be allowed to remain on the AAA roster and would not count against your team’s cap hit (in a contract format). The draft order would be in the inverse order of the MLB major league draft. (So if I was first in the MLB major league draft I would be last in the minor league draft and it would be snake format as usual.)
NFL (Practice Squad)
Anyone with less than 16 games of experience in the NFL would be eligible for the 20 man practice squad. We would not have a separate draft during the initial NFL draft. Rookies would be drafted in a 5 round fixed rookie draft in the offseason and would be immediately eligible for the practice squad.
NHL (AHL roster)
Anyone with less than 82 games experience in the NHL would be eligible for the 15 man AHL roster. We would not have a separate draft during the initial NHL draft. Rookies would be drafted in a 4 round fixed rookie draft in the offseason and would be immediately eligible for the practice squad.
NBA (D-League roster)
Anyone with less than 82 games experience in the NBA would be eligible for the 10 man D-League roster. We would not have a separate draft during the initial NBA draft. Rookies would be drafted in a 2 round fixed rookie draft in the offseason and would be immediately eligible for the practice squad.
