The AAA roster will have no requirements for positional players, it will simply serve as a farm system for any players the owner wants to keep. Unlike the other sports. The AAA roster will be capped at 50 players and can be retained from year-to-year.
Any player with less than 130 AB or 50 IP in the major leagues is eligible to remain on the AAA roster. HOWEVER, players who have already made an appearance in the majors will only be allowed back into the minors until they hit that threshold. Once they have hit that threshold they are required to return to the active roster. These players will also not be eligible for the minor league entry draft. Once a player is called up to the active roster, their contract will begin. All prospects receive a four-year deal once they are called up to the active fantasy roster. The structure goes as follows:
Year 1: $500,000
Year 2, Year 3, and Year 4 are based upon performance. If a player is:
1st divisor: $6,000,000
2nd divisor: $4,000,000
3rd divisor: $2,000,000
At this point, the player would be eligible for free agency or extension as usual. Note: Player salary does NOT decrease.
If you choose to release a player from your AAA roster, you are free to do so at no penalty AS LONG as they have never been called up to your MLB active roster. If they have played at the MLB level in their career, they will be eligible for waiver wire during the season and free agency in the off-season. If they have never played at the MLB level even after the current season has ended (say someone with an ETA of 2018), they will be released into the prospect pool and WILL BE ELIGIBLE for the off-season rookie draft.
Players signed in free agency that are under the threshold (130 ABs for hitters, 50 IP for pitchers) can be sent down to the AAA roster until they hit the threshold and then must be either brought up to the active roster, traded, or bought out.
