Players that are injured, therefore eligible for the IR/DL spots will NOT count against a team's salary cap if they are moved to the IR/DL accordingly. Any contract they receive based upon when they are drafted or what they receive in free agency WILL be their salary but only salaries on the active roster will affect the salary cap.
Example:
Milwaukee has a total team salary of $135 million. If a player receiving 5 million dollars per year gets injured and is MOVED to the IR/DL, then Milwaukee will have one open roster spot and a total team salary of $130 million.
This may come into play when making trades or signing players in free agency, so it is important to note.

Ok I picked up Forsythe yesterday when Baez went on the 15 day...I should have checked in here first because I am not sure how this all works up against our cap etc....Should I not have done that? If I can't pick anyone up I'd be running on a short bench making it less likely for me to be able to compete? Let me know and i'll make my adjustments accordingly!

Any player that you sign to replace an injured player gets the league minimum salary so one year, half a million. While a player is on your DL he doesn't hit your cap. If you look at your roster on the spreadsheet it should be noted there. Your signing of Forsythe was fine

How does this affect the cap during the offseason? Say trout busts his shit (to use a medical term) in August and will be down until mid-season next year, does his salary count toward my offseason cap?

Negative ghostrider. You get the cap space to work with in the offseason, but remember when you call him u again you may need to adjust. Remember the salary cap inflation rules during the season.
